The standard for rod holders, is a mild-steel frame welded to a stainless steel threaded post.  Even though the frame is rubber coated, it can still develop rust; especially when around salt water environments, like the ocean or tidal rivers.

With an ALL Stainless Steel rod holder, rust will no longer be an issue.
